Research Reader & Direct Borrower Privileges

You may apply for a Research Reader or Direct Borrower Card, as appropriate, at the Reader Registration Desk, Robarts Library, 1st floor, Monday to Saturday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, and Sunday 1:00pm - 6:00pm.

Borrowing Privileges

  • Up to 100 loans at a time
  • 14 day loan period
  • Two renewals, 14 days each

NOTE: Some campus libraries including federated college libraries have different borrowing privileges or may apply local rules. Please check with each individual library.

 Other Privileges

  • You may enter the closed book stacks on floors 9-13 of the Robarts Library to select material from the main collection for yourself.
  • Place a "Reserve" on a book being used by another user by phone or in person. You will be called when the item is returned.

Interlibrary Loan

For Research Readers:
If the U of T does not have the material you need, use the RACER SERVICE to obtain the item or a photo-copy from another institution. You must have borrowing privileges to use the RACER Service.

Cost: $20:00 per request

For Direct Borrowers:
ILL service is available for a service charge to visiting OCUL/CREPUQ/COPPUL/CAUL faculty. For more information please see: University of Toronto ILL Policies.

 Cost for Research Reader or Direct Borrower Card:

Annual: $200.00            6 months: $130.00               

3 months: $80.00          Seniors: $95.00 annually
