Put items on course reserve

— filed under:

The course reserve service makes available a special collection of high demand items to support current courses.

What we offer

The course reserve service makes available a special collection of high demand items to support current courses. This service is provided for both print and online items, including electronically-available articles and e-books.

In addition, this service delivers to the Blackboard course page a fully-linked reading list, including required, recommended and additional readings.

How items are placed on course reserve

We retrieve the print items you specify on your reading list and place them in a separate area of the library. The library limits the number of titles that can be placed on course reserve to required readings that are in high demand by numerous users. Library staff may also monitor hold requests and consider redirecting hold items to course reserves. Loan periods for Reserve Items vary from 1hr to 5 days, please contact owning library to discuss specific loan periods.

For electronic books and articles, we create a link from the course list in the library catalogue to the e-resource.

When will the materials on my list be available?

Lists are processed in the order they are received. It’s advisable to provide them as many weeks before the readings are scheduled, as possible, so that the material can be located, including being recalled from current borrowers.

For new materials that need to be ordered, please allow up to three months.

Learn how your course readings are being used

For print materials, circulation statistics are available. Low use material may be returned to the main collections. To learn how often your course materials have circulated, contact one of the staff listed below.

When your course ends

When your course ends, please notify library staff if you require the same materials on course reserve for the following session. Additions and deletions can always be made. But, knowing that material should be retained is helpful.

How students can find material on course reserve

Students can search the course reserves collection within the U of T catalogue. Click here to start.

The complete reading list is also uploaded to your Blackboard course page, where students will be able to access all the readings by selecting the e-Reserves link.

How to submit your reading list to the library

Please send your course reading list in electronic form (Word, PDF, email, RTF) to the contact below for the appropriate library. Course reserve requirements should be clearly indicated.
