Ways of Giving

Pining for a Periodical?

YOU and your colleagues depend on access to the most recent published literature to support your research. That means journals, professional magazines, and other periodicals.

In recent years periodicals have become one of the most difficult library collections to maintain. The virtual explosion of new specialized titles in the past decade, combined with rising subscription costs, have strained the Librarys ability to maintain comprehensive subscriptions in all areas. The unfortunate result has been the cancellation of hundreds of subscriptions.

You can change this. You know best which journals are most important for your work. By donating the cost of a subscription to your favourite journal for at least three years you will ensure that the library will continue its subscription in the future. In addition, you can rest assured that the journal will be bound and maintained in excellent condition.

If you have a particular title in mind, the Library can bill you annually for the subscription cost. Upon payment you will receive a tax receipt in the full amount of the donation. If you wish to support a general subject area, Library staff will be glad to offer title suggestions in various price ranges. Again, you would be billed annually.

Each bound volume will also include a bookplate in honour of yourself or someone you designate. You may restrict your gift to a particular title or subject area, or leave it to staff discretion.

Some examples of titles currently supported by subscription donations include:

Cultural Anthropology, $65.96
October, $150.39
Queuing Systems: Theory & Applications, $1302.00

Income tax receipts will be issued by the University of Toronto.

You will need to print our Pining for a Periodical form and mail the completed form with a cheque payable to:
